• French and Spanish

    Lessons for Adults
  • Learn for Travel, Work, Family—or Simply for Yourself

Adults learn languages for many different reasons.

You may want to speak French or Spanish when you travel. You may need it professionally. Perhaps your spouse, children, grandchildren, or friends speak the language. You may be preparing to live abroad.

Or perhaps you studied French or Spanish years ago and have always wanted to finally speak it comfortably.

Whatever your reason, your lessons should reflect your objectives, your interests, and the way you learn best.

  • A Program Built Around You

There is no single method that works equally well for every adult.

Some students want conversation from the very first lesson.

    Others want more structure.

Some learn naturally by hearing many examples and discovering patterns for themselves. Others appreciate explanations that help them understand what they are hearing.

Some students remember what they see. Others remember what they hear.

Our job is to discover what works for you.

  • Speaking from the Beginning

Language is first and foremost a means of communication.

Whenever appropriate, we encourage students to begin using French or Spanish from the very beginning.

You don’t need to wait until you have mastered every tense or memorized hundreds of grammar rules before you start communicating.

We introduce vocabulary and structures progressively and put them to use.

As your level improves, more and more of the lesson can take place entirely in French or Spanish.

  • Conversation

Many adults come to us with an interesting problem:

They studied a language for years—but they still don’t feel comfortable speaking it.

They may understand grammar. They may be able to read. They may even have an impressive vocabulary.

But when someone speaks to them, they hesitate.

Private conversation lessons give you something that is difficult to obtain in a traditional classroom: time to speak.

There is no need to wait while other students answer.

The conversation revolves around you—your experiences, interests, work, travels, opinions, and everyday life.

  • Beginners are Welcome

You do not need any previous knowledge of French or Spanish.

For complete beginners, we concentrate first on the language you are most likely to use.

Greetings. Introductions. Questions. Everyday vocabulary. Useful verbs. Simple conversations.

Grammar is introduced progressively and in context rather than becoming an obstacle to communication.

The objective is not simply to know about the language.

The objective is to use it.

  • Returning to a Language

Perhaps you studied French or Spanish in high school or college.

You may think you have forgotten everything.

    Very often, you haven't.

Words, structures, and sounds that have been dormant for years can begin to return once you start hearing and using the language again.

We identify what you still know, rebuild what you have forgotten, and concentrate on the skills you actually want to develop.

  • Intermediate and Advanced Students

For intermediate and advanced students, lessons can become increasingly sophisticated.

Conversation may include current events, culture, literature, travel, business, history, films, or subjects connected with your own interests and profession.

We can also work specifically on:

    ConversationPronunciationVocabularyGrammarReadingWriting • Professional Communication

At advanced levels, lessons can take place almost entirely in French or Spanish.

  • Private Lessons. Your Pace.

In a group class, the teacher must consider everyone.

In a private lesson, the teacher can concentrate entirely on you.

If something is easy, we move ahead.

If something is difficult, we spend more time on it.

If a particular approach isn’t working, we change it.

There is no class to keep up with and no class to wait for.

  • Online From the Comfort of Your Own Home

Private online lessons make it possible to study with an experienced instructor without commuting to a school.

You can learn from home, your office, or while traveling.

Your lessons remain personal and interactive—the instructor is working directly with you throughout the session.

One student. One instructor. One personalized program.
